Mr. Danish Rahman, Marketing Director at Procter & Gamble, addressed PGCIM participants at SPJIMR in an Industry Interface Lecture.
Mr. Rahman is an alumnus of IIM Bangalore and has been working with P&G for the past 12 years, with an experience of working in 11 countries and having handled 13 brands. He has won several prestigious awards including the Cannes Media Lion award in 2004 and 2011 and Asian Marketing Effectiveness Award (EFFIES) in 2004 and 2009.
With key expertise in turning around a declining business, regional brand management, category management and brand strategy management, Mr. Rahman talked about the tips and tricks to survive in the big, bad corporate world. He discussed with the students the skills that are expected of a manager in the corporate world and how they can be harnessed. He also spoke about the principles and values that drive P&G across the globe. Throughout the session he stressed on the importance of doing the right thing irrespective of the outcome. He simplified the jargons learnt at the B-school by relating them closely to the real life experiences at P&G and stressed on the importance of staying grounded and working towards the companys goal more than towards individual aspirations.
Participants got a lot of insights from a P&G case study of a declining, hair shampoo brand in Philippines, which was rejuvenated with a simple and effective solution of sharing the right message across to the customers through right advertisements, which in turn made it P&Gs best-selling brand in the ASEAN markets under his leadership. The examples shared by him helped PGCIM students look at the corporate life more closely.
