IIM Calcutta wrapped up its summer placements this Friday by successfully securing internships for 460+ students enrolled in the first year of its management program. The summer placement process began on 5th November and lasted 4 days till 9th November with a day-break in between.

After the final placements in Feb 2012, this is the second time in a row that the placements are getting completed in 4 days. This is a historic achievement, considering that the batch of 460+ is the largest in the history of IIMs. Several changes were introduced into the process this year shifting from a spot offer to multiple offer system, with the purpose of helping students choose the right profiles.

IIMC had already had a stellar start to its placement process with the students bagging more than 230 offers in the first two days of the process itself. The first couple of days were dominated by consulting firms like McKinsey and Co, Boston Consulting Group, Bain and Co, AT Kearney, Investment Banks like Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, UBS, Barclays Capital, Citi Group, HSBC, JP Morgan Chase, Credit Suisse, Nomura etc, and FMCG companies like Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Procter and Gamble, ITC, Kraft, Cadbury, Nestle, Asian Paints, Johnson and Johnson, Coke, PepsiCo and Dabur. General Management companies like Aditya Birla Group, TAS and Mahindra & Mahindra were not left behind, recruiting in large numbers. Amazon offered 11 positions.

Despite the gloomy economic scenario, the process did not lose steam with a flurry of offers rolling in on the third and fourth day. More than the number of offers that were made, the summer placements of 2012 was noted for the diversity in profiles and roles. Some of the highlights are given below:

World Bank recruited three interns to their Financial Instruments and Treasury departments. This is the first time that the organisation headquartered in New York is visiting an Indian campus:
