IIM Kozhikode felicitates students with a candle light vigil

Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), one of the proud members of the IIM fraternity has today felicitated 310 students from PGP and 133 students from the ePGP programme who embark their journey to be future leaders. Amidst their proud parents, invited guests and distinguished members of the academia the students of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode donned their black robes to receive their convocation certificates in the institutes 14th convocation.
Through their two years in IIMKs hallowed portals, its vision of Globalizing Indian Thought has been written into the DNA of each and every student. As they step into the business world as executives to be, this will be their guiding principle in adding value to the society at large.
The convocation was presided over by the Chief Guest Shri. E. Ahamed, Honble Minister of State for External Affairs and Human Resource Development, the Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Kozhikode Dr. A.C. Muthiah, Director, IIMK, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Guest of Honour and Academy Award winner Mr. Resul Pookutty and other members of the Board and Trustees.
The Chief Guest, Shri. E. Ahamed, gave the convocation address where he spoke of the importance of institutions like IIMK in crafting Indias future and elaborated on the numerous steps taken by the central government in furthering its commitment to higher education.
Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK, spoke on the need for students to emulate the qualities of the great warrior Arjuna and aspire with single minded focus to achieve their goals. He highlighted the extent of the diversity that IIMK has been able to achieve among its student community and the value it adds to each and every student. The breadth of IIMKs activities during the last year has spanned from Gift the workshop conducted for the Kerala cabinet to the symposium on lessons for business from Indian spirituality and this demonstrates IIMKs commitment to thought leadership. A proud addition to the campus this year has been the museum of Indian business history that aims to add an additional perspective of the rich heritage we are seeking to build on.
As a symbol of unlocking knowledge to society, doves were set free and tri colour balloons were let lose, by the Chief Guest. In a symbolic homage to their guiding light which is the education they have received here, the graduating students took an oath to uphold high standards of professional values and ethics at a candle light vigil.
Mr. Resul Pookutty, Guest of Honour, attempted to drive home the importance of respect, labour, skill, art and inventiveness in achieving success in todays dynamic world.
Dr. A.C. Muthiah, Chairman BOG, IIMK added, Education is everywhere with superficial variance but quality of education imparted from the premier institutes like IIMs redefines and restructures education itself. The rigor in learning makes them better citizens and better leaders. The unique quality of learning in IIMs depends on the academic freedom the Institutes enjoy.
