IIM Lucknow exhilarates with Varchasva 2012

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknows Annual Cultural and Sports Festival ' Varchasva' 2012 got off to an exciting start..

Mr. Kajal Ghose, Chairman, SBI, was the Chief Guest and Mr. Pavan Kapoor, CEO HCBL was the Guest of Honour at the inaugural ceremony which also saw the presence of Prof. Neeraj Dwivedi, PGP Chairman, Prof. Satish S.M., Student Affairs Chairman and other senior faculty members of IIM Lucknow.

Mr. Ghose enlightened the audience with lessons from the lives of Swami Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore and urged them to draw inspiration from their prolific lives to achieve their dreams and reach the pinnacle of success. Thereafter, Mr. Kapoor addressed the students. He praised the rigour of the IIMs and how they promote leadership. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Neeraj Dwivedi.

The ceremony was followed by an evening of Classical Music: Samavesh, sponsored by LIC. It featured live performance by Abhay Rustum Sopori, India's youngest Santoor player who has thirty albums and releases to his credit. He left the both the young and old audience mesmerized and enthralled.

Many more events kept the participants from over 150 colleges from across India occupied. The first round of the three day dance workshop saw couples swinging to the beats of Salsa. The participants followed their professional instructor with utmost passion and enthusiasm.

A potpourri of fun literary events called Cranium was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. While these students showcased their witty sides and took prizes home, 7 teams of Indias very best dancers battled it out in Enigma-The Group Dance Competition. The zany moves, the flashy costumes, the judges watching ardently, the crowds cheering for their respective colleges, the earth pulsating in rhythm and the afterglow, Enigma proved to be a huge success.

Uttarang the Hindi Band Competition which would feature dazzling hindi music was scheduled for later in the evening. Gods of Gaming featuring favourite enthusiasts playing games like DOTA and AOE was also scheduled to continue till the wee hours of the morning.

The sports events which ran all through day saw teams from FMS, IIM-Indore, IIM-Ranchi, MDI and other prestigious colleges fight each other in Cricket, Basketball, Badminton, Carrom and a plethora of other sports events. The semi-finals and finals will be covered over the next two days of the fest.
