B-School life often synonymous to stressed lifestyle. MBA students are generally found complaining about the level of stress during their stay at the campus.

Here is look at life in VGSoM IIT Kharagpur.

Q. Were you able to get the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option that was open/available to you?

Since I happened to do badly in CAT, I knew JMET was my only hope. Delhi was my first choice, but yes, VGSoM was always on my list!

Q. Did work experience help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the curriculum?

Most definitely! The average work experience of my current batch of 2013 is 34 months! Also, having a good work-ex helps us in the curriculum as well.

Q. After joining the school, did you ever wish that you should have known certain more things about the school before you became part of it? What are these?

More clarity on the committees and the clubs present which are the heart and soul of VGSoM, IIT Kgp.

Q. What is the toughest area to handle in your studies?

I guess time management is quite a herculean task with all the subjects and competitions around.

Q. Which one is your best subject?
Operation Management

B-School life often synonymous to stressed lifestyle. MBA students are generally found complaining about the level of stress during their stay at the campus. Here is look at life in VGSoM IIT Kharagpur.

Q. What’s the best and most admirable feature of your institute?

BEST: helpful and cooperative faculty
ADMIRABLE: Though we have a huge disadvantage regarding the location, we still attract some of the best MNCs!!!

Q. Scope of development in your existing curriculum. Do you wish to add or remove some parts in/from the curriculum?
Probably, student exchange programs can be a part of the curriculum. Ofcourse, subject to budget constraints.

Q. Does your institute send students on foreign trips?
No.

Q. Which stream do you come from? Do you agree upon the fact that having a science background makes it much easier to sail through the hurdles of getting through a top management institute of your choice?

I am an electronics graduate. Though a majority of students at top management schools have a science background, I really can’t see why students from different backgrounds can’t do well in CAT or any other MBA exams. Taking up science and then doing engineering is just going “with the flow”, here in India. There are, absolutely, no concrete reasons for only science students getting through a top management institute!

Q. How would you rate the hostel facilities at your B-School? Do they provide accommodation for the family too (in case of married students)?

The hostels are just about average! Coming from Infosys, where employees are treated royally, it was really tough initially. But, we do have everything at our disposal here at IIT, Kharagpur! No, it’s a residential program, and thus, no accommodation for the family within the campus. Though occasional visits are welcome!

Q. How are the other student facilities at your B-School?
(Well stocked library, smart classrooms, WiFi enabled campus, sports and recreational activities, hostel for both boys and girls, entertainment facilities etc.)

Magnificient! Name a sport, and we have it here at IIT, Kharagpur! Spread over 2000 acres, the IIT campus boasts of some of best facilities in terms of sports and leisure. The state-of-the-art library is probably, the biggest in India! High speed internet is available all around the campus.

Q. Tips for those who wish to do MBA from your school.

Do well in CAT! A good profile and a great CAT score can get you a seat at VGSoM!
