Hastantaran the annual event of the Abhyudaya at SPJIMR concluded successfully on July 29, 2012. Colors, excitement, cheer, curiosity and on top of that a warm sense of responsibility amongst the participants and their mentees made the event a huge success.

Hastantaran marks the beginning of the mentoring journey a unique social initiative that sets SPJIMR apart from b-schools around the world. This event where the mentees or sitaras as they are called are handed over to their new mentors was attended by over 1000 people, including the sitaras, their parents, the participants and the faculty of SPJIMR.

The event saw flawless performances in the form of skits and dances by the sitaras and the participants. This was followed by a brief interaction of the sitaras and their parents, with the old and new mentors.

Launched in 2008, Abhyudaya program is a pedagogic innovation, conceptualized and guided by Dr. M. L. Shrikant, Hon. Dean, SPJIMR. It intends to change the attitude of the participants from self-centered to service-centered approach.

The Program aims at bringing about holistic development of the underprivileged children, mostly dwelling in slums and studying in BMC Schools of K-West Ward, using education as an enabler. It also teaches the PGDM participants of SPJIMR the lessons of life by sensitizing them towards poverty and encouraging them to do their bit for the society.

Abhyudaya, the first of its kind in India, has been widely appreciated across the globe. SPJIMR was recently awarded a US$ 1,63,000 grant to fund implementation of Abhyudaya by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), owner of the GMAT exam and the leading membership organization of graduate business and management schools worldwide.
