SPJIMR launches new program initiatives at the orientation of the new PGDM Batch 2013-15

SPJIMR announced the introduction of an integrated program in ‘Business Communication’, a ‘Business Consulting Project’ and a minor specialization in ‘Consulting’ at the orientation ceremony of the new PGDM batch 2013-15..

A new elective on ‘Design Thinking & Innovation’ based on the workshop led by Prof. Srikant Datar, Senior Associate Dean of Harvard Business School, has also been incorporated in the first year of the program for the new batch.
 

In the Business Communication program, participants form groups to facilitate group interactions, presentations and discussions. This program has been benchmarked with the courses being offered at Stanford and Harvard Business School.
 

The Business Consulting Project is a group work based program wherein the participants form groups as junior consultants on live assignments being undertaken by the Centre for Executive Education, Centre for Financial Services, Centre For Entrepreneurship at SPJIMR. The course on ‘Fundamentals on Business Research‘which is immediately taken after the foundation has been accordingly restructured to provide theoretical backdrop for the same.
 

For participants interested in a professional career in consulting, a minor specialization has been introduced to provide tailor made inputs. Going forward, the PGDM program expects to launch such ‘minor specialization’ tracks focusing on sector specific recruiter needs and roles matching the participants career aspirations.
 

The PGDM program has been designed to make the participants globally oriented by providing opportunities to undertake specialized courses in prominent International institutes and also make them socially sensitive value driven leaders.
 

The PGDM program endeavors ‘differentiation’ as the participants graduate from the program and ‘segmentation’ as they enter the program.
 

The unique selection process of the PGDM programs achieves this segmentation at the time of admission based on differentiated need of recruiting organizations. The participants were not only assessed for their intellectual readiness in terms of academics but also emotional readiness –work experience, extra-curricular activities and alignment with the Institute’s mission of value –based growth.
 

This years’ batch of SPJIMR’s PGDM Program of 2013-15, is a diverse mix of 236 participants with 94 female participants. The new batch comprises 65 non-engineers, from colleges like St. Stephen’s, St. Xavier’s , Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram, Stella Maris, Singapore Management University, Stella Marris College, Delhi School of Planning and Architecture to name a few and includes 14 Chartered Accountants,. The batch also consists of participants from prominent engineering colleges like BITS Pilani, Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), Delhi College of Engineering, Jadavpur University, VJTI and many more. 213 participants of the batch have a work experience of average 24 months.

 

Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, the Deputy Director, PGDM Program explained the logic of the PGDM program architecture, the program pedagogy and announced the new initiatives to the participants during the orientation program held on 11th June 2013 for the Class of 2013-15.

The program commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony followed by a recital of ‘Shanti Mantra’ by the Dean, Dr. M.L. Shrikant his explanation of the student- teacher relationship quoting from ‘Kathopanishad’.
 

The Director, Dr. Sesha Iyer acquainted the participants about SPJIMR’s mission of ‘influencing management practice through inculcation of Indian values’. He urged the students to be a ‘contributor’ which is a source of internal fulfillment and lasting happiness. .
 

The highlight of the program was an interactive ‘Question & Answer’ session by Dean Dr.M.L.Shrikant, with the new participants. Dr. Shrikant stressed the need for distributive justice in human life and motivated the participants to contribute to the society by taking up unconventional careers like entrepreneurship, teaching and social services. He assured institutional support and guidance to participants opting for such careers.
