SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) continues its innovation in MBA education as it sends its entire batch of Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) for a 3-week International Immersion. Not only is this initiative rare for an 11-month duration program, but it is unique in that each of the four specializations is getting differentiated inputs.

The Information Management specialization is traveling to the McCombs School at the University of Texas at Austin, which is a top-5 B-school for Information Management as ranked by US News & World Report. Similarly, the Operations Management cohort is traveling to Michigan State University, which is again a top-5 US B-school, for advanced Supply Chain Management.

The objective of the International Immersion is to 'provide participants with advanced and in-depth knowledge in their area of specialisation. Dr. Indu Niranjan Dy. Director, PGPM. The long-term goal is for the participants to deliver superior value to their post-MBA employers.

For the Finance and Marketing specialisation, SPJIMR is experimenting with a different model in London: while the goal of cutting-edge, world-class inputs is maintained, students get best-of-breed faculty from not just one, but multiple B-schools. Select, expert faculty from Cambridge University, Imperial College London, Hult and City University are conducting advanced courses in Marketing and Finance.

Not only does the international immersion include advanced coursework, but it also includes visits to industry such as to Dell Computers, Pentland Brands and UPS logistics hub. To get this unique initiative off the ground the US and UK embassies have extended extraordinary cooperation, according to Prof. Malay Krishna International Coordinator.

The participants are accompanied by faculty members from their respective specialization. This initiative of international immersion brings in a good mix of international faculty into the PGPM Program. The 2-credit immersion runs for 3 weeks (24th Sep -12th Oct). On returning to Mumbai, students will pursue electives across specialisations, completing the program in December 2012.
