Home Away From Home
Jul 11,2011
Home away from home, That's exactly how I am feeling after 3 months of my stay at Great Lakes Institute of Management. Though initial days were tough, but kudos to the caring people around, who are an excellent examples of sense of academic responsibility, relationships to fulfill, friendships to nurture and memories to cherish.
With so called apprehension of B-school “attitude” and “snob”, as I was told by my friends at other B-schools, as I joined the college, everything is lost in the air with a very accommodative student fraternity and supporting administration to aptly take care of the day-to-day affairs.
The awesome place to network, peer learning where one can find people with plethora of experiences ranging in manufacturing industry to IT to writers, and a fantabolous work ex of 4 years to 13 years as well. The place never nurtured differences and everyone was on equal ground from Day 0. If hostel life is a new thing for first timers, there are many like me, who shared their hostel lives with the friends in the corridor.
GLIM currently is teaching me, how to slog in for midterms, stay awake in 3 hr long classes, work religiously for committees, clubs on campus, and then taking out time for personal lives too. The first lesson of management is not learnt by any management lecture, but by Karmyoga project, where Spartans( as the current batch known as)try their hands on Transformational Leadership.
Coordinating the working of club activities by mutual collaboration without harming each other's autonomy or bypassing the traditionally followed norms or hierarchies is the excellent example to learn team behavior.
I guess the most important contribution of GLIM to me would be learning the art of time management, and imbibing the structured approach of thinking which is essential for corporate life.
Apart from this, I am sure all Spartans would agree the non-ending discussions at Bistro about the grades, assignments, and prereads. I am sure, as we all be moving along in this journey, we surely be having bouquet of good memories.
Concluded.
