24 Board Toppers choose BITS Pilani in 2012

BITSPilani (Birla Institute of Technology and Science), one of the premier Indian institutes for higher education, successfully conducted its student orientation programme on July 31, 2012 in its Pilani campus.

 

24 top ranking students of the 12th Board examinations from various states chose to join BITS Pilani in the 2012 admissions. Out of 24 toppers, 20 joined the BITS Pilani campus, 2 to Goa campus and 2 to Hyderabad Campus. They were given admission to BITS Pilani in the category of 'Direct Admissions' which allows for board toppers from any board to get admission in the university directly while other students have to go through the BITSAT exam.

 

These board toppers come to BITS Pilani from across the country, thus highlighting the institutes long standing commitment to qualitative education. These Board toppers were from the following states of India : Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Orissa, Delhi, and Bihar. Congratulating the newly admitted students for their performance in the qualifying examinations and the online admission test, Vice Chancellor Prof B N Jain said, The education system here prepares you to take your own decision today and tomorrow and help you lead an enriching life ever. Speaking about recent developments in the Institute, Prof Jain said Curriculum of BITS has been redesigned and the new curriculum is comparable to the best in India and the world. All facilities and infrastructure are getting renovated at Pilani. Therefore, your stay will continue to be better. Major expansion of our campuses is being planned in terms of number of students to be admitted to the postgraduate and research programs.

 

Prof Jain said that BITS is a pioneer in Practice School and Work Integrated Learning Programs. Vice Chancellor called upon the students to strike a good balance between academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities when they study at the Institute. Highlighting the dos and donts of students activities, Prof Jain said, Dont get addicted to internet. Socialize yourself with new friends and participate in extracurricular activities .Life would be fun.

 

Director of the Pilani campus, Prof G. Raghurama spoke on the academic flexibilities that BITS pattern of education. He called upon the students to be more responsible while exploiting the freedom given to them and ask them to attend the classes regularly. set their priorities in life and be disciplined in their behavior and actions. Calling upon the students to make best use of the diversity that we have in the n the campus, ProfRaghurama said, BITS Pilani offers you a mini Bharat. Make friends, respect differences, learn cultures. He said that the Institute offers many flexibilities and academic freedom but they come with a lot of responsibilities. Stating that the pattern of education at BITS is designed for the all round development of the student, Prof Raghurama said, You have joined an institution which has produced a large number of leaders who have excelled in various spheres of life.

 

Earlier, welcoming the new students, Professor Arya Kumar Dean of Student Welfare, BITS PIlani said that the orientation program aims to highlight the facilities offered at BITS apart from clarifying any doubts the students or parents have at the initial stage.
