Sep 21,2012

Mr. Sriram Venkateswaran, Director of National Supply Chain & QA at McDonalds India, enriched the PGDM participants at SPJIMR with his insights in the field of Supply Chain Management. Being an SPJIMR Alumnus and having worked in the Supply Chain domain for almost 19 years, he connected with the audience and acquainted them with the simple yet effective supply chain model that McDonalds follows.

Starting with the basic fundamentals, he explained the supply chain model followed by McDonalds all over the world. This encompassed his in depth knowledge of the industry, which came with experience. Mr. Sriram discussed about how McDonalds keeps things very simple, yet its supply chain is considered as one of the strongest throughout the world. He went on to discuss the current scenario in India and mentioned the innovative ways being used by McDonalds to maintain its competitive advantage.

The lecture was followed by a round of Q&A where the participants inquired about various facets of McDonalds working, right from its cost cutting measures, to maintaining the numero uno position and opening up completely vegetarian restaurants as a part of approaching different countries with different competitive strategies.

The guest lecture was organized by the Alumni Committee, 2012 which is an integral part of ADMAP (Assessment and Development of managerial and Administrative Potential) Program at SPJIMR. The committee helps by connecting the Alumni with the institute which it views as one of the major stakeholders of the SPJIMR family. The ADMAP Program is like an experiential laboratory where students get to work in such committees with their peer group. This gives them a dry run of the situations they might face when they join different organizations in the future.
