The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is conducting first annual review of Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS) on Saturday, September 29.
The meeting will mark the presence of recruiters and representatives of various B-schools with a target to review the IPRS which was introduced by IIM A in June 2011 in order to bring in more transparency in placement reporting.
A total of 26 B-Schools had shown their interest in abiding by the IPRS. It is noteworthy that of these 26 B-Schools most of them are private colleges and except IIM Awho have themselves coined the IPRS, only IIM Shillong is another member of the IIM family who agreed on reporting placements as per IPRS.
Other private B-schools that have accepted IPRS include SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai; Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad; Tata Institute of Social Studies, Mumbai; Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar and GD Goenka World Institute, Sohna.
In an email communication with CoolAvenues, Prof Saral Mukherjee, a senior member of the IIM-A placement committee and the man behind introducing IPRS wrote, I wonder why many of the institutes have not bothered to be a signatory to the IPRS and help in bring in greater transparency. I wonder whether the data provided by them is verified by a professional auditor.
When asked why the standards were not getting the desired response, There are many B-schools which are keen to reveal their highest pay packages, but they like to be silent when it comes to the lowest or average salaries. There are B-schools which reveal their salary figures for a year, but choose not to disclose the numbers in a lean year, Prof Mukherjee told The Indian Express in an interview.
Though IIM A seems unhappy with the kind of response that B-Schools had shown towards IPRS, we wonder why the B-School has not come out with CRISIL Audited Final Placements 2012 data, yet. The newly appointed Chairperson of placement Committee at IIM A, Prof Kirti Sharda wrote in an email interaction with CoolAvenues that the data will be available by end of June.
