The 6th batch of the one year, full time, residential Post Graduate Programme in management for Executives PGPX at IIM Ahmedabad graduates today. The program, which attracts highly experienced Indian as well as foreign professionals from diverse functional and industry backgrounds each year, has seen excellent placements this year.

The programme has a general management focus, with an emphasis on leadership across borders and cultures and this is reflected in the roles offered to the candidates in the campus placements.

So far, the PGPX students from the class of 2012 have accepted roles such as the Chief
Technology Officer, Vice President, General Manager, Director, Assistant Vice President, Principal Consultant and several other senior managerial positions offered on campus. The batch has seen offers made for positions both in India and abroad. A very diverse group of recruiters multinationals, Indian business houses and start-ups have sought to recruit from this batch. The list of recruiters includes well-known names such as Boston Consulting Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Microsoft, Oracle, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Google, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Cognizant, Mindtree, Amazon, Yes Bank, Tata Motors, Ericsson, Deloitte and many others.

1 of the 101 students in the class of 2012 was company sponsored and has therefore opted out of placements this year. 4 students have decided to join back their previous employers. 1 student has opted out of the placement process in order to pursue opportunities outside. 3 students have got jobs outside the placement process. The remaining 92 students from the batch participated in the placement process. 87 offers have been made on campus till date. 26 students continue to be in the process looking for the right fit in terms of role, location and designation desired. Some of these students have very niche experience / skill sets while others have rejected offers made to them on campus to look for a better fit. Some of these students have an option to go back to their previous employers. The interview process for some companies is going on and candidates are in various stages of selection process. The final offers from these companies are expected to come in coming weeks. The institutes placement office continues to support career plans of students by facilitating interaction with firms with the appropriate requirements, till all are placed in roles of their choice.

The PGPX programme follows a rolling placement process. As per international standards the institute will release the placement statistics as on 3 months after convocation. IIM Ahmedabad follows a Placement Reporting Standard which was launched last year. The institute is presently collating all the placements related statistics as per these standards. A detailed report on the GPX placements at IIM Ahmedabad in 2012 prepared as per these standards will be published after completion of external audit process by CRISIL.

The institutes placement chairperson Professor Saral Mukherjee said The PGPX programme has been ranked 11th worldwide in the Global MBA Rankings by Financial Times for two consecutive years. We are very happy to note that in 2012 there has been an increase in the diversity as well as in the overall number of firms that have participated in the PGPX placements. This is especially evident from the participation of the global consulting and banking majors as well technology companies apart from the Indian business houses. We intend to keep building on this momentum and invest in developing a better match between recruiter needs and student aspirations and competencies.
