Leading Violin Maestro N. Rajam to Perform at IIM, Calcutta

The IIM Calcutta chapter of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Among Youth) to hold an evening of Indian Classical Violin concert by the leading violin maestro Padmashri and Padmabhushan recipient, N. Rajam at IIM Calcutta campus on February 4, 2010.

She will be accompanied by well-known Tabla player, Subrata Bhattacharya.

Born in Chennai in a musical family to Vidwan A. Narayana Iyer, Rajam started her initial training in carnatic music under her father and later trained under Massurri Subramanium Iyer, and learned raga development from the vocalist Omkarnath Thakur. Rajam received the prestigious titles Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990, Padma Shri in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 2004 and Puttaraja Sanmaana in 2004. People often refer to her music as the "Singing Violin".
