IIM Calcutta Lends Hand of Support to AILA Victims

IIM Calcutta is proud of its beautiful campus bestowed with so many trees, water bodies and greenery all around and it makes utmost endeavors to protect the same. However, when the cyclone 'AILA' struck on May 25, 2009,

we lost many trees and normal activities were disrupted. But through our planned efforts and help of professionals, we could restore and replant most of our fallen trees. We could also resume normal activities at the earliest.

But, many of our fellow citizens were not so fortunate. They suffered great personal loss and inconveniences caused by 'AILA'. In the Sundarbans area and some other parts of the state, people have been rendered homeless and struggling to make ends meet.

In such a situation, IIM Calcutta has decided to forego the annual cultural event and instead donate the expenditure on this event to the victims of 'AILA' by donating a considerable amount for relief work. The donation will be channelised through the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, a renowned NGO associated with such type of welfare work in a programme to be held on August 21, 2009. The donation will be handed over to the officials of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha in presence of director, Professor Shekhar Chaudhuri and other colleagues.
