XIMB's Glocal Call for Sustainability: Remembering Gandhi on Independence Day

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "There is enough in this world for each man's need...not each man's greed". Mahatma Gandhi not only gave freedom to India but gave to the world a new perspective on sustainable living. Recognizing the importance of a balanced global order for a sustainable business and social environment, XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, India), has decided to conduct a 3-day conference entitled 'International Conference on Demography, Culture, and Marketing '.The special focus is on Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The event will be conducted at XIMB on Dec 14-16, 2010.
XIMB has invited several thought leaders from various fields and sectors. Apart from academe and industry in India, speakers from Africa Population and Health Research Center, National University of Singapore, Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Colombo, University of Oxford, etc. are chairing the tracks. The thought leaders in this conference belong to diverse countries such as Australia, Bhutan, Iran, India, Kenya, Liberia, Libya, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UK, USA, etc.

Speaking to the Press in this regard, Fr. P.T. Joseph, S.J., Director, XIMB said, "XIMB has been undertaking activities with the aim of sustainable global order. In this regard, this upcoming international conference with special focus on Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa would provide a strong platform for exchange of ideas and perspectives and open paths for greater cooperation for glocal sustainability." To a query on the concept of the term "Glocal", Fr.Joseph, S.J. added, "there have been calls for sustainability either on global or local levels. But the need for sustainability can be met when there is an integration of the global as well as local strata which would lead to greater balance and sustainability in the world."

No time can be better than our Independence Day to salute Mahatma Gandhi. Needless to say, he continues to inspire leaders like Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, and Al Gore, irrespective of their generations and remains immortal. On the 62nd Independence Day, Fr. Joseph, S.J. urged the students and other stakeholders of the nation to erase lines of differentiation based on ethnicity or demographics, and work as a family for the nation building process. This cultural harmony is the most important precondition for sustainable growth in Indian subcontinent as well as across the globe. Now the time has come when India has to take a lead in creating sustainable global order which has always been our core value.

Concluded.
