Post-event Press-release The first day of the Annual Finance Management Seminar, Arthanomics 2005, concluded successfully today at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode. The seminar is organized by the Finance student interest group at IIM K - Financially Yours. The talks centered on the theme "Risk vs. Reward - Exploring opportunities and Business challenges". The event is sponsored by UTI Bank, who is the platinum sponsor, and Mahindra, who is the gold sponsor. Financial Express is the Media Partner for the event while CoolAvenues.com is the Online Media Partner. The January edition of Spandan, the official management journal of IIM K was also released by Dr. R. H. Patil later in the event.

The event was kicked off with the lamp lighting ceremony by IIM K Director, Dr. Krishna Kumar and the distinguished speakers. Dr. Krishna Kumar talked about the relevance of such a seminar in the wake of heightened competition across all the industries. He said that competition has reached such levels that innovation is the key differentiating factor. He also talked briefly about the research work being done by IIMK on industries and risk and talked about the concept Fragility index. He also mentioned that IIMK is planning on taking in 180 students for its PGDM programme in the coming academic year. Dr. D. S. Broca, who was the Faculty coordinator of Arthanomics, welcomed the speakers and set the context for the seminar. He also talked about some of the legendary fund managers like Warren Buffet and Walter Schloss, who beat the markets consistently. He also raised some pertinent questions related to risk, which he wanted to be explored during the seminar. Dr. Broca also lauded the students of IIMK on their excellent event management skills.
