BACKWATERS 2005
The Complete Management Festival at IIM Kozhikode
Held on January 29-30, 2005

Backwaters, the annual management seminar at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode was held on the 29th and 30th of January 2005. The brightest young minds from the top B-schools and colleges across India converged at IIMK to compete, to excel, to learn and to have fun during Backwaters. Hosted at IIMK's picturesque campus, the event witnessed large-scale participation from as many as 21 premier business schools across the country such as IIMB, XLRI, NITIE, SP Jain, ICFAI and many others. More than a hundred and fifty students converged at IIMK to compete in competitions that tested not just their intellectual capacity but also their creative quotient. Business Standard was the Media Partner for the event while CoolAvenues.com was the online media partner for the event. IDEA Cellular Limited was the communication partner for the event

Over 30 teams participated in 4L - The Marketing Game. Innovation, design, and creative thinking were the chief inputs based on which the participants had to design an advertising campaign. The team from IIMK conprising of Kunal, Vishak, Jaspreet, Richard, and Sandeep stood first while the second position was grabbed by Kunal, Jagney, Neha, Ranu, and Shikha from NIILMCMS, New Delhi. The best product launch award was also bagged by the team from NIILMCMS.

Konsultant - The Systems Game featured a stimulating quiz and an exciting simulated game that put to test the participants strategic thinking as well as risk taking abilities. The teams had to manage a high technology company in a highly dynamic and, competitive world simulated online. The game turned out to be a big hit with the participants. After an exciting 2 and a half hour of play, the team from IIMB comprising of Apoorv, Karan and Kunal bagged the top honors. A very close second was the team from IIMK comprising of Abhijit, Pranay and Sundesh.

Kautilya - The Strategy Game was another major attraction that lasted for the entire two days of the fest. The game made sure that the funadamentals of management strategy are tested for all participants. With simulated financial exchange and various operational scenarios being part of the game, the participating teams had a challenging time. While Gaurav and Jamil from JBIMS, Mumbai ran away with the honors, Palaniappan and Penny from IMI, New Delhi were a close second. The best financial portfolio award was won by Divakar and Aniket from JBIMS, Mumbai.
