MICA Organizes SPICMACAY Show During Virasat 2005

Ahmedabad, February 6, 2005

Ahmedabad had the mesmerizing experience of witnessing the performance of Dr. N. Rajam (Violin) and Pandit Rajshekhar Mansur (Vocal), both legends in their own right, as MICA SPICMACAY chapter was pleased to host the grande finale and last-leg of Virasat 2005, on the sixth day, i.e., 6th of Feb. Virasat 2005 was a Great success and had traversed the crème-de-la-crème of institutes, namely IIM-A, NID and MICA. This event was made possible due to the generous contribution of HCL towardS the show. They were the main sponsors.

The fest Virasat'05 was a celebration of this rich heritage of art and culture. Virasat'05 featured renowned artists from the classical music, dance and theatre arenas. It was a week-long programme comprising performances and workshops in folk and classical arts, literature, crafts, cinema, theatre held in different educational institutions. It aimed at close interaction between students, artistes and craftsman, scheduled from February 2-6 at institutions like IIM, NID and MICA and others sub-chapters outside Ahmedabad where leading artists performed at different institutions.

After a mesmerizing performance by Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma on the first day and enthralling performance by Grammy award winner Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on Mohan Veena on the second day, music lovers witnessed Pandit Rajshekhar Mansur (VOCAL) at NID Campus on the third day. Habib Tanvir, the renowned theatre personality made IIM Ahmedabad thrilled by his performance on the fourth leg of the fest.

Uma Sharma (Kathak), Dr. N. Rajan (Violin), Aarti Anklekar (Vocal), Mukul Shivaputra (Vocal) and Kapila Venu (Kudiattam) again gave their best performances at NID campus on the fifth day.

SPICMACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) is a voluntary apolitical participatory student movement, which aims to enrich the education process by exposing students to the rich cultural traditions of India. Founded in 1977, for the last 26 years, SPIC MACAY has tried to promote our rich heritage and classical art forms amongst the youth with an underlying hidden message of peace, harmony and brotherhood amongst all.
