Entrepreneurship Competition Concludes at IIM Calcutta

The Entrepreneurship Cell of IIM Calcutta successfully conducted its flagship event, i2I (ideas to Implementation) on Sunday, 13th February. A hundred and forty teams had been whittled down to eight after surviving rounds of prior elimination. A diverse mix with teams from various IIMs to corporate houses gathered to fight it out amongst themselves for the honour of best business plan with the massive reward of complete funding from the chief sponsors awaiting them.

Business plans ranging from weather derivative systems to risk management were presented and crtically evaluated by prominent judges including Prof. Kalyan Mandal of IIM Calcutta and Mr. Joydip Chakladar, an entrepreneur himself and C.E.O of AllIndiaLive. The teams made a presentation lasting approximately half an hour each following which the judges quizzed them on various aspects of the plan, it's feasibility the future opportunities and so on. If the teams thought they had survived the toughest rounds and would have it easy here on, they had another thing coming with the judges firing pinpoint questions at them covering all possible facets of the plan. It was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion with competitors and audience alike enthralled by each presentation and the rapid fire questioning that followed.

At the end of presentations, the Director of IIM Calcutta, Prof. Shekhar Choudhury graced the occasion with an informative speech on various initiatives that IIM-C would be undertaking in the near future on Entrepreneurship, and also congratulated the teams on their splendid performances. Prof. Kalyan Mandal and Mr. Joydip also spoke on various aspects of entrepreneurship as well as the event itself, while giving entertaining anecdotes related to entrepreneurship in the process.

And finally, the prizes were announced. SAV Networks comprising Prashant Raj and Shubham Jain walked away with the first prize for their terrific business plan. They would be getting complete funding from Venture Capitalists, IndiaCo, and additionally, a cash prize of Rs. 12,000 as a token gesture of appreciation.
