IMI India Plays Host to Chinese Delegation

IMI India recently played host to a team of 12 officials from China who are visiting India on an exposure visit. The purpose of the delegation is to examine role of Non Profit Organisations (NPOs) in promoting public benefit poverty reduction and decrease in inequality, and to explore how government policies influence the development of NPOs in India, intervention of administrative policies and relations with laws.

Since IMI is engaged in carrying out activities in this sector, thus the Chinese team came to visit on 25th February 2005 so that exchange of views on this important subject can take place.

This programme began with a welcome message by the Director, Dr. C. S. Venkatratnam. This was followed by "Overview of IMI Activities", delivered by Dr. Deepak Chawla (Dean IMI). After this Dr. Rajat Kathuria, Dr. G. S. Das and Smt. Vijaya Srivastava discussed various facets of the issue at hand.

Dr. Rajat Kathuria spoke at length about "unleashing the tiger". He gave insightful comments about how India can be an example for the world to see where NPOs can really do a great work in working for the social upliftment. Dr. Kathuria was followed by Dr G. S. Das, who critically analyzed the "Changing Dimension of Indian Organisation". As always each of his words was lapped up by the enchanted.

IMI was honoured to have Smt. Vijaya Srivastava, Executive Director Central Social Welfare Board as a speaker on that day. Smt. Srivastava gave some insights from her own life while describing "Management of Social Sector Programme". It was really a great learning experience for all who attended the meet.

The concluding remarks to this interactive eventful session were made by Dr. Ashok Chandra who is Principle Advisor, IMI and Chairman of the Centre for Social Sector Governance. A special mention has to be made of Dr. Ahindra Chakrabarti who coordinated the entire programme and made it a success.

Entire IMI community hopes that this sort of interaction between Chinese and Indian people will continue in future and IMI India will continue to play an important role in this process.

Concluded.
