IIM, Calcutta Celebrates 45th Annual Convocation Day

The 45th annual convocation at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) will be held on the IIM-C campus at Joka. The Convocation happens to be the most important day in the Institute's academic calendar.

The whole IIMC community and especially the graduating students have been eagerly looking forward to this day to earn academic recognition in the form of diplomas or titles. The leading social activist and Ramon Magsyssay Award winner, Dr. Sandeep Pandey would be the Chief Guest. Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan, CEO - Rediff.com and the Chairman of IIMC Board of Governors, would be presiding over the ceremony.

During his early career life Dr. Sandeep Pandey left his job with IIT Kanpur as faculty and plunged into working for Asha -- an education programme for underprivileged children. His objective is to empower the marginalized so that the poor can have a voice.

Mr. Balakrishnan is also a Director of Rediffusion Dentsu Young & Rubicam Private Limited, India Abroad Publications, Inc., India in New York, Inc., India Abroad Publications (Canada) Inc., Value Communications Corporation, VuBites India Private Limited and Ajit Balakrishnan Foundation.

Seven students would receive Fellowships while Diploma will be awarded to successful PGP students which include 226 in PGDM and 52 in PGDCM. The Diploma will also be awarded to 51 students in PGPEX and the Chairman - PGPEX-VLMP would announce the convocating batch of PGPEX-VLMP.

The Institute's prestigious endowment alumni award, Aditya Kashyap Memorial Scholarship for receiving highest CGPA in compulsory and elective courses has been won by Ankit Rattan Arora of PGDM. The other prestigious award, Johnson & Johnson Award & Cash Prize for excellence in Marketing has been won by Arnab Chatterjee of PGDM. In total, 21 academic prizes/awards were won by PGDM students while 6 such by the PGDCM students. Three such awards were also won by the PGDM & PGDCM students combined.

Ankit Rattan Arora has secured the first rank in the PGDM programme and will be receiving Dr. B. C. Roy Gold Medal and other prizes. Vibhor Gupta has secured the second rank and will be receiving Dr. B. C. Roy Silver Medal; Dr. Amiya Barat Prize and other awards and Vohra Prerak Kashyapkumar has secured the third rank and will be receiving the Duncan Award for Excellence and other award. Their names would be placed in the Institute's Honour Roll for this year.

In PGDCM, Prashant Agarwal has secured the first rank and will be receiving the IIMC Gold Medal and Dr. Jogendra Kumar Chowdhury Gold Medal and other awards for his outstanding achievement. Ashutosh Gadodia has secured the second rank and will be receiving Smt. Indira Chowdhury Gold Medal and other awards. Their names would be placed in the Institute's Honour Roll for this year. Thirte Hrishikesh Vinay has secured the third rank and will be receiving the ACC Award and other awards.
