Conference on Research in Finance and Accounting at IIM Lucknow Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow hosted a Conference on Research in Finance and Accounting on 17th and 18th of March 2005. The conference was inaugurated by the Chairman of SIDBI, Sri N. Balasubramanian, who was the chief guest for the occasion. The Conference was coordinated by Prof. A. Vinay Kumar and Prof. M. Ravi Sundar of IIM Lucknow. On the occasion, Prof. A. Vinay Kumar welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries to the conference. Sri N. Balasubramanian emphasized in his inaugural address the immediate need to bridge the gap between practice and precept. While academicians are breaking new grounds in management and financial research, all of this knowledge is not reaching the practitioners. He highlighted that any academic research should ultimately improve the functioning of an economy. He pointed out that there are many research problems in entrepreneurial finance and because of these financial problems many financial institutions and banks have collected lot of NPAs on their balance sheet. He asked academicians and researchers to contribute towards improving the financial management and disclosure practices of SSIs and SMEs. The conference was a year long effort which received over 120 research submissions, including international research works, covering emerging issues in finance and accounting. After a thorough review process, 45 papers were selected for presentation in two days. The topics included, amongst others, stock market problems, share price behavior, Indian financial markets and their integration with other markets, issues related to corporate valuation, ownership issues, accounting and disclosure practices of Indian firms and corporate governance. At the conclusion of the two-day long affair, five 'Best Paper' Awards were given away. 'The Best Paper' was received by Prof. S. Mallik of IISWBM, Kolkata. Concluded.
