IIFT-NASSCOM Discuss the Future & Challenges Faced by Indian IT Industry
IIFT provides a platform for IT-ITes business leaders to discuss initiatives on what it will take Indian IT companies to sustain global competitiveness.
Post-event Press-release

Previous

Shri. Prabir Sengupta, Director-IIFT, said, "The Indian IT sector has grown at a tremendous pace, and will play a significant role in employment generation and in GDP growth. The contribution of IT companies to the GDP is expected to increase from the current level of 4.5% to 8-10% by 2008. The Indian IT sector offers a unique blend of low cost and high quality services."

He also added, "The challenges are first related to greater occupation of the space for product development. For this, a greater emphasis would be necessary on R&D services, which have increased from 16% in 2001-02 to approximately 15.70 in 2002-03. The second challenge is in marshalling adequate number of skilled manpower and broad basing of the manpower profile with a great deal of emphasis on post-graduate qualifications. The third challenge is responding to the problems and opportunities of intellectual property rights, and finally, IT companies have complained about the impact of poor infrastructure on their business. Concerted approached would be necessary in this regard as well."

The sessions covered during the symposium were:
Issues and Challenges for IT-ITeS Firms to sustain their Global Competitiveness;
Domestic IT Market: The Road Ahead; and
Issues and Challenges for Global IT Managers: HR's Perspective.

Some of the eminent speakers in the sessions were Mr. Ganesh Natarajan, Deputy Chairman and MD, Zensar Technologies Limited; Mr. Baru S. Rao, CEO, Capgemini, India; Mr. Kamal Mansharamani, CEO, Birlasoft; Mr. G. S. Krishnamoorthy, COO, US Technology Resources, India; Mr. Ajai Chowdhry, Founder HCL, Chairman and CEO - HCL Infosystems, and a host of other prominent dignitaries.

Concluded.
