Complete Round-up of VISTA 2006, the Business Fest at IIM Bangalore
Post-event Press-release

Previous

The event is being managed by the Tata Administrative Services - the premier recruitment brand of the Tata Group, and the Tata Management Training Centre. The event was a simulation-based game where teams from all the campuses are being required to manage a £5 Bn capital to create an automotive company in the European market domain.
Spread over 5 grueling rounds and followed by a mock annual general meeting where the teams presented their businesses, the game tested skills in all functional areas of business. The teams were expected to work like boards of respective companies, and hence, attributes of teamwork, consensus building and management, and the ability to balance risk and rewards was brought forth.

The game turned out to be a two-day test of the two-year MBA program. It transcends the usual management syllabus, and is an extremely challenging way of understanding business concepts, taking them to real life issues. The acid test for this event will be tomorrow's Mock Annual General Meetings for the top companies that come through this simulation where they would present their business rationale and results to an audience comprising of their shareholders (in this case all other competitors) and an elite panel of TAS managers playing the role of large institutional investors.

Numero Uno

While day one of Numero Uno was largely a test of participants' intellects and acumen, Day 2 recognized that CEOs are also ultimately leaders, motivators and inspirational people. Participants were divided into two teams, and went through a wide range of competitions that served to bring out the importance of team spirit and also the pressures of competition, once again introducing them to the real world of management. Among other things, participants had to rappel down a 75-ft wall, play a Robot race game which involved a blindfolded person picking up the target object following instructions from his/her teammates, the 'key retrieval' game, which tested their ability to manage scarce resources, the 'Spider's web' game which tested their planning and foresight, and 'Crystal tube' which tested their co-ordination and teamwork. The entire event has so far been structured in the form of a story, trying to build the context for the final stage, where the teams will negotiate an obstacle course to reach the destination.
