SPJIMR Organizes Social Impact Awards 2007

About six hundred million people live with disabilities of various types in the world, and the number is increasing due to the rise in chronic diseases, injuries, accidents, violence and other causes such as ageing. Of this, 80% live in low-income countries; most are poor and have limited or no access to basic services, including rehabilitation facilities.
There are various organizations and individuals who are working for the specially-challenged, keeping in mind their special needs and providing them with substantial sources of livelihood. Through their efforts, they have been able to help thousands of specially-challenged individuals to break the barrier of society and enter the main stream.

Social Impact Awards was initiated in the year 2005 by the Center for Development of Corporate Citizenship, SPJIMR. It is instituted to recognize and appreciate the success stories in the social sector and showcase its impact on the society. The Center for DOCC at SPJIMR was established in the year 2001 with a view to mould management education in accordance with the Indian context. It has its origins in SPJIMR's research project for ASSOCHAM, which addressed the issue of socio-economic development of rural India. DOCC is built on SPJIMR's philosophy of 'value-based growth' and 'influencing practice'. In addition, through DOCC, SPJIMR aspires to create a movement to build the managerial potentials of the Institute's participants to make them sensitive to Indian ethos and culture.

SPJIMR also strives to act as a medium to create a network between NGOs and the corporate for sustained and enhanced impact of development processes on society. It is a critical part of contemporary business because without an understanding of this interdependency, neither business nor the society in which it operates can thrive. In fact, this understanding is becoming increasingly more essential as corporations grow in size and influence, and public pressure intensifies for corporations to address pressing social and environmental concerns.
