DoMS-IIT Roorkee Organizing Umang '07 to Connect NGOs with Upcoming Rural Technologies
On March 18, 2007

The Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee, brings to you Umang '07, a one-day workshop which aims to bring together the academia and non-government organizations for the dawn of a better tomorrow.

By providing a common platform, Umang '07 aims to connect NGOs with rural technologies, and provides them with an opportunity to understand them, which would facilitate their future activities.

In this endeavor to bring about a positive change in society, the institute organized Umang '06, a two-day national workshop in April 2006, on 'Developing Strategic Framework for NGOs'. A large number of NGOs including WWF and HARC had participated.

Umang is distinct in a way that it introduces and attempts to sensitize the students and faculty about the various causes represented by the NGOs, thus, fostering a relationship. The resounding success of Umang '06 has encouraged the institute to carry this idea forward.

A large number of NGOs are facilitating and catalyzing the process of bringing these technologies to rural India, in an effort to improve their lives.

Umang '07 aims to provide NGOs an opportunity to know and understand the latest innovations in Rural Technology, which would be instrumental in their future endeavors for improving lives in rural India and bridging the divide between haves and have-nots. These technologies provide an effective, simpler solution to the every day problems in rural India, such as in agriculture, healthcare and ICT (information, communication and technology).

Distinguished speakers will delve into the concept of Rural Technology, and share their thoughts and experiences. An exhibition showcasing a broad range of rural technologies would also be organized. If you have any such technology to showcase that can add value, the institute welcomes you to write and inform in advance about the same.

The institute requests technology developers, promoters and NGOs to join hands with them in their endeavor to make a real difference in lives of rural people.
