Fr. T. A. Mathias, Former Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, Passed Away

Fr T A Mathias, former director of XLRI Jamshedpur and an eminent personality passed away on 6th July 2005 at 7.30 p.m. The funeral services would be held on XLRI Campus on July 8th at 3 p.m at the XLRI campus.

Fr. Mathias has been a Visiting Professor for short-terms in several American Universities and for 2½ years in the Christian Theological Seminary (CTS), Indianapolis in the Ph.D. programme in International and Social Relations. He was Eli Lilly Distinguished Professor in CTS. In 1997, CTS bestowed on Fr. Mathias an Honorary Doctorate.

Fr. Mathias has traveled extensively in Asia, Western Europe and North and South America, generally for conferences and lectures. He has spent 3 months in Papua New Guinea, helping that country revamp its educational system to suit its independent status.

Fr. Mathias was appointed by the Government of India Delegate of India to the U.N. General Assembly, for two years.

Besides, three earlier books on various aspects of education in India, Fr. Mathias has edited one on Corporate Ethics. He was also the author of about 25 articles on Business, focusing mainly on values and the economic aspects of Indian development. His most recent article was on "China's entry into the W.T.O. and its Impact on developed and developing countries".

After a brief illness, died on July 6, 2005.

Funeral services at 3.00 pm on July 8, 2005 at XLRI Campus.
