A Day at Welingkar

- by Rohit Daga *

It was the first day of the 1st year in the PGDBM program.

The day started at 8:15 am. We were in the auditorium. The batch of 2006-08, PGDBM, as well as e-Biz were present. We were having our customary ET Test (Economic Times Test).
ET has been my favourite newspaper for almost a decade now, so I found the ET Test quite interesting and looked forward to it. The test was easy and then we discussed the happenings of the business world... M&As, commodity prices, rupee volatility, etc.

We then had a break of five minutes, which was sufficient to find the location of our next class (so much for breaks!). It was an Economics class in the morning. I wasn't looking forward to it because morning was not when I wanted to be learning about economics, that too sitting on the first bench! The professor walked in, he seemed to be an experienced professor. Then he started teaching. He was amazing! He made economics fascinating. His name was Prof. R Sahuraja and he is the best economics professor I have ever come across. Even non-commerce students understood what was taught. His examples of mangoes, I will never forget...

Then we had a fifteen minute break for lunch, gulping down food was something I was good at! The next class: Financial Accounting. Our professor walked in, she seemed so calm and relaxed. Her name was Prof. Smeeta Bhatkal. She started teaching the basics of financial accounts. There were many science graduates in our class, so she taught it in a very simple manner. It was quite nice to see a professor teach at the Post Graduate level with so much patience and simplicity. All the doubts were cleared in such a way that students were clear about accounts and its basics. What I will not forget is her patience. She was like a mother teaching her children with care. I was beginning to like the place and the professors.

The next class started: Quants. Ah well, calculus has never been my favourite. It was early evening; sleep was something that was on my mind. It was quite basic, so it was a breeze even in a semi-sleepy condition!

Finally, the last part of the day, it was already a hectic day. After 4 years of working, sitting in class for such a long time was not a breeze. It was 6.00 pm now, we had a break for about five minutes. We were all in the auditorium in blazers. The guest lecturer's name was Mr. Moradian. He shared his experience of management and operations. The way he taught was quite remarkable. It got instilled in my memory. It was 10.00 pm now. I was no more tired, his lecture was revitalizing.

We left the college, got a cab and headed for the hostel... I was thinking that the next two years would change a lot in my life... and this day, I will remember for a long time to come...

Concluded.
