JBIMS Students Learn Marketing Mantras from Brand Manager of HUL

Continuing with the tradition of encouraging frequent and enriching interactions between the students and industry luminaries, JBIMS played host to Mr. Kedar Apte, Brand Manager, HUL, and an alumnus of the institute from the 2001 Batch on 5th September 2007.
Mr. Apte is a qualified engineer from VJTI and has had a brief stint with Larsen & Toubro. After completion of his MBA from Bajaj, he joined HUL and has been with the FMCG major for more than 5 years.

Mr. Apte, who has been handling prime brands at HUL like Hamam, Breeze and Rexona, introduced the students to the nuances of a marketing job and the various roles that a fresh MBA graduate can play in the industry. Quoting frequent examples from his own profession and that of his colleagues working within and outside HUL, Mr. Apte threw light on each aspect of marketing, including brand building, brand development, international marketing and market research.

Stressing on the importance of expanding ones horizons, Mr. Apte encouraged the students to explore various cultures and marketing practices entrenched in various cities of India. Having worked for a considerable period in Chennai, he narrated important illustrations of how sensitivity towards the needs of your employees as well as the customers, aids in breaking the cultural barrier.

The batch was introduced to various strategies of marketing as such monitoring competition, significance of gaining consumer insights, motivating your staff by providing regular feedback, etc. The students were clearly awed by Mr. Apte's candidness and the feel of the market that he successfully recreated during the short span at the campus.

The session endowed the students with invaluable marketing mantras which will continue to inspire them throughout their management careers.

Concluded.
