NITIE announces postponement of Lakshya-2005 due to bad weather

The annual festival Lakshya-2005 has been postponed to October due to incessant rains in Mumbai since last week. The sixth edition of the mega-event was to be held from 5th-7th August 2005. Despite the efforts taken by students, the event was deferred due to continuous downpour, which resulted in huge loss of life and property across Maharashtra. The students have been preparing for the program for last two months and were disappointed a bit but their spirits are very high still and they believe that the event in October will definitely be a huge success and the fruits of the efforts will be sweetest ever. The students are of the opinion that at present, the efforts should be directed to contribute to the relief work of the people affected.

The whole NITIE Community had been trying to help in as many ways as possible, be it setting up a help desk, coordinating with the NGOs or helping the trapped people with food and water bottles, especially on the nights of 26th and 27th August when the rains were severe making the life come to a standstill. The help given by the faculty and students to the effected people with clothes and food is a sincere and honest effort to show that the Institute cares for humanity and is trying to contribute, be it in a small way, to bring the life of the effected people to normal.

Lakshya is a unique endeavor by PGDIE (Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering) students of NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering) to not only improve Industry-Industry interaction but also to improve Institute-Industry interaction to keep students updated with current requirement of industry and prepare them to handle their respective portfolios more effectively.

Lakshya is a three-day program. Corporate presentations are given by various industrialists during the first two days in the fields of Operations, Supply Chain and Systems Management. The third day is devoted to the students in the form of Case Studies, B-Plan Contests and discussions. The mega event is recognized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). The winners of the Lakshya contests receive certificates of excellence from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and also earn the privilege of participating in CII-organized workshops.

Concluded.
