Life at NMiMS

- by Arun Anand *

We have all heard of B-schools outside the city belts - with lush green campuses, serene lakes, deer, rabbits and peaceful ambiences. But no B-school in India has the International Airport on their right, Railway station in their front, a very happening Andheri West on the left and the lane of Star-Hotels and Juhu Beach on the back. Welcome to NMiMS, Mumbai.

The small, but neat campus, like Bombay, maintains its speedy life-style. You can see students doing hurried last-minute touch ups to their presentations. You can see Visiting Professors and Guest Faculty from the industry rushing into the college in their cars. Right outside the gates, one can often see Mercs stopping by to have "cutting-chai" and "wada pav". In short, Mumbai life is blended into this B-school - NMiMS.

During the first three weeks, we had an orientation program. The Non-engg were taught Maths and IT. Engineers were taught accounting and so on. A right blend of subjects in the right proportion enabled every student of the batch learning basics of the subjects he/she never knew. The mantra at NMiMS is pretty simple - Live your Life. Study hard. Play harder. Here, you can see the professors and the students having Tea together. Our Dean is one among us. Our VC is one among us. Yet, no assignments are delayed and no presentations are postponed. Work means work. Play means play. And that's our USP - a healthy sense of freedom.

We have a mixed teaching style - Theory + Presentations + Cases - form our curriculum. Subjects like Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance are given utmost importance. Many of our professors used to hold high positions in Industry. For instance, a professor like Chandan Dasgupta, who knows an ocean in Banking, or a Professor like R. P. Singh, who is a king of Operations, are the ones who we are all proud of. Dr. Meena Galliara, whose knowledge in Social Responsibility & related concepts is unmatched. The other part is, despite their busy schedule, they are all very much accessible to us.

An awesome senior batch and a fantastic alumni network is something worth mentioning. An efficient Students' Council combined with cells like "Finomenon", "Not Just Marketing", "IT Cell", "HRuday", etc., are responsible for organizing various events here. Virtually, every week we have some activity going on by any of these cells. The campus is a buzzing one. In addition to this, we are celebrating our Silver Jubilee year very soon. Lots to come.

We are eagerly waiting by the Juhu side...

Concluded.
