20% of Batch of 2008 Receives PPOs in Summer Placements at DoMS, IIT Roorkee

Summer Placements at the Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, surpassed all past performances creating a new high for the Batch of 2009. Summer Internship Program, a crucial part of the MBA
course intends to give the budding managers real world exposure in their chosen areas of expertise. It is always an endeavour to match the student interests with the profiles coming their way.

The Summer Placements in the 2007-08 academic season saw active participation from a variety of companies. As much as 35 companies confirmed their participation while only 29 companies got an opportunity to recruit from a batch comprising of 51 students. The stipends offered ranged upto Rs. 30,000/- per month and the average stipend stands well above Rs. 12,000/- per month.

Finance profiles were led by giants like Citibank, Bajaj Allianz and Axis Risk Consulting. Marketing profiles were led by companies like Idea Cellular Ltd., L&T DSCL and ESSEL Group.

First time recruiters at the summer process like Axis Risk Consulting, McGraw Hill, Vertebrand, USHA International, ESSEL Group, IIFCL and Uttaranchal Development Executive Corporation (an IDFC initiative) heralded the beginning of relationships with the department.

IBM Extreme Blue, Sun Microsystems and Aditi Technologies represented the IT sector, with strong focus on Marketing and Finance functions. Companies like SIDBI Venture, BPCL, Apollo Group reinforced the confidence in the system and the students of this reputed institute.

Reflecting the growing brand equity of DoMS, IIT Roorkee, consulting companies recruited 14% of the students. Banking, Finance and Insurance sector remained the top choices of students with more than 31% of the batch opting for the same. 29% students opted for Marketing profiles. IT Consulting and Operations profiles made up the rest of the pie.
