Workshop on 'Management Consultancy in Transition for Future Unlimited' Held at IMI Delhi

The Institute of Management Consultants of India (IMCI) organized a workshop on, 'Management Consultancy in Transition for Future Unlimited', at International Management Institute, New Delhi on June 26, 2008, and recognized world wide as
    International Management Consultancy Day.

The workshop was attended by faculty members of IMI, consultants from the industry, eminent panelists and students of IMI. The panel had Mr. Suneel Chawdhary, Mr. Debashish Banerjee, Mr. M. R. Mahnot and Mr. Rajeev Khurana as consultants from the industry, Mr. Subir Vyas, Senior Director HR, Gap International Sourcing INC., also an alumnus of IMI representing the perspective of the clients of the consultants. Dr. C. S. Venkataratnam, Director, IMI, New Delhi, moderated the panel discussion. Due to non-aviability of Mr. Ramesh Tyagi, Chairman, IMCI, Mr. Sumeet Chaowdhary, Vice Chairman, IMCI presided over the discussion. IMCI works for the development and consolidation of management consultants all across India. The institute enropes professionals as fellow or associate members and provides CMC (Certified Management Consultants) Certification.

Mr. Debashish Banerjee, M.Tech. (Mechanical), IIT Kanpur rolled the ball by reminiscing the days when the quality was thought to be impossible in India, to the current scenario which holds great potential for India-centric management consultancy. Stressing the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility, Mr. Banerjee explained that the future holds promise for management consultancy in the public sector, not merely as aiding agents but also in nurturing IT skills, and helping them grow.

Next to take the podium was Dr. M. R. Mahnot, an economist by education, and a training and management consultant by profession. Dr. Mahnot threw light on the topic of the day and helped all to gain a better idea of what the terms 'Transition' and "Future Unlimited" meant from the perspective of management consultancy. Mr. Mahnot enlightened the session by saying that harnessing knowledge works not only for enterprises a consultant serves but for themselevs becomes a source of their competitive advantage. Indian consultants must constantly update their knowledge pool, since each assignment becomes their asset which sustains their own development and enhances engagement with the client.

The workshop was immensly benefited by 'a lone ranger's perspective' provided by Mr. Rajeev Khurana, the first secretary of Delhi Chapter of IMCI. Mr. Khurana claimed, "When I realize that I am not a good manager, I became a consultant," but he had more to offer. From nomads to agriculture to industralization era, to an era of information intensification, he foresaw the age of innovation intensification which will bring challenges for consultants like blending western thoughts with Indian experiences and spirits, and to be not a cost but a justified association.
