IMI Delhi Organizes Seminar on Women Empowerment

"Places don't make a difference, people do."

And the ones that make the most difference are the Youth of any country!!! The social and moral responsibility on them is the maximum which needs to be acknowledged and accepted. It is imperative on the youngsters to convert their capabilities into Actions!

International Management Institute, in an earnest endeavour to fulfil its moral accountability, organised a seminar on "Women Empowerment" so as to expand the horizons of its students. Developing a strong value system in future managers, "the change agents" of the country has always been Numero Uno in the Institute's priority, and the seminar was a step further in that direction. Touching upon the humane aspects, we looked into the world which is beyond the territory of business, strategies market and economy. Where the quest to win at all costs is not the concern but humanity, equality and fair opportunity for all take a higher priority.

The eminent speaker on the topic was Dr. Rajeshwari, Expert Faculty for HRD & Organizational Behaviour & Vice-President of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, who delivered a very insightful lecture emphasizing on the topic.

A very old saying teaches us, "If you teach a man, a person is educated, and if you teach a women, the whole family gets educated."

When the influence is so widespread then why are they neglected? Why their role marginalised and space is designed and confined as per the whims and fancies of society? To provide answers to these questions and do some brain storming on the same, she touched upon the various aspects of status of women in the society in general, and in the corporate world in particular.

One of the major points of discussion was the need to break the "Glass Ceiling", which is accepted by one and all, but still needs a comprehensive efforts from the grass root-level. What can be done and needs to be done, etc., were discussed in detail.

Mrs. Rajeshwari started the lecture with a lot of hard-hitting facts about the socio-economic standing of women globally. It was not emotional but the data given by her said it all. The revelation that meagre 0.3% of total executive work force constitutes women all over showed the grim situation in the era of globalization, equality, fairness, and what not. She convincingly conveyed the point that the fight for empowerment has to be done at a war-like pace and then only the gap can be bridged. Presenting before the students the data from UN, she showed the severe level of disparity. Constituting the half of the population, their share of global income is just 10%. The question arises, why? Where lies the root-cause of the problem? Is it external, i.e., society driven or internal, i.e., within the self?
