Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay, is organizing its Annual International Business Festival, Avenues '08, on October 18 & 19, 2008. The festival is part of IIT Bombay's Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The thrust of the festival is on the role of

managers in tapping the country's potential and celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship of new India. Theme of the event, "Realizing Aspirations", attempts to portray how Indians are aspiring to raise the bar in their respective fields to achieve prosperity for themselves and for the nation.

"With the kind of legendary speakers and events lined up, Avenues '08 promises to be a unique melting pot of ideas, values, experiences, success stories, inspirations and above all, a tremendous learning opportunity for all," says Amit Mittal, a student coordinator of the event.

The festival will feature a distinguished lecture series, management and strategy-based competitions, workshops and several other events for business and undergraduate students all over India and abroad. The distinguished lecture series Alankar is the flagship event of the festival which aims at bringing illustrious leaders and legends from different walks of life at a common platform. Some of the luminaries participating in Avenues '08 include Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Investor & Partner, RARE Enterprises; Mrs. Vinita Bali, Managing Director, Britannia Industries; Dr. Kiran Bedi, Magsaysay Award Winner and former Cop, Delhi Police; Dr. Swati Piramal, Director, Nicholas Piramal Life Sciences; Dr. Shivathanu Pillai, CEO & MD, Brahmos Aerospace & Chief Controller, Research & Development, DRDO, and Shri A. N. Roy, DGP, Maharashtra Police.

Avenues '08 also features a unique creativity based competition, Imagine It! India, to encourage creative ideas. SJMSOM has partnered with Stanford University, USA for the same. In line with its vision of 'realizing aspirations', Avenues '08 is organizing a unique energy based Business Plan Competition aimed at discussing the topic of energy security for the country, which has opened a vast window of opportunities to the budding entrepreneurs of the country.

Avenues '08 also features Navonmesh, the International Entrepreneurship Convention, which includes workshops for budding entrepreneurs, a panel discussion of eminent personalities, and an International Entrepreneurial Challenge, Baazi, which simulates the negotiation of a VC deal. There is also an event exclusively for MBA aspirants, Odyssey, which seeks to go beyond MBA admissions and give a peek into the life of an MBA student and life post an MBA.

The event hosts a number of on-the-spot events the like of South Sea Bubble - The Equities Challenge, Man Who Sold The World - The Marketing Challenge, Ludus Magnus - The Quiz, and Bulls on Parade - The IPO Challenge. Apart from all these events, Avenues '08 also offers a host of online games including online treasure hunts and online advertising challenges.
