IIM Calcutta Celebrated November 11 as National Education Day

IIM Calcutta celebrated November 11 as National Education Day by organizing a seminar under the theme of "Contribution of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in India's Education Policy". The seminar was attended by Director, Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri and Chief
Executive Officer, Shri Dinesh Varma along with the Key Note Address given by Prof. Raghabendra Chattopadhyay.

This was to mark the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and the first Union Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Incidentally, this was for the first time that MHRD has devised the directive to celebrate the day as so in the academic institutions under the ministry including IIM Calcutta. The Ministry had, on September 11, 2008 announced, "The Ministry has decided to commemorate the birthday of this great son of India by recalling his contribution to the cause of education in India. November 11 every year, from 2008 onwards, will be celebrated as the National Education Day, without declaring it a holiday."
