FIIB, New Delhi Organizes a Seminar to Discuss the Changing Role of HR in Emerging India

"IT & HR play an important role in creating a high performance work culture" said Ms. Mona Dutta, Director, People Strategy, Sapient India Pvt. Ltd. at Karmic 2009 - The HR Seminar organised by Fortune Institute of International Business

The topic of the seminar was 'Emerging India: Issues and Challenges of HR'.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Anadi Sinha, Head HR, Pantaloon India inaugurated the event and highlighted challenges faced by HR professionals. Firstly, Change management, where organisations have to align and adapt themselves to changes taking place in the environment outside. Secondly, Leadership Development, where organisations have to nurture leadership by developing ordinary people deliver extraordinary results and lastly, Succession Planning, for organisations to groom executives take up leadership roles in future.

The seminar had HR bigwigs of the corporate India as speakers. Mr. Husnain Zaidi, Compensation & Benefits Manager, Bechtel India Pvt. Ltd., spoke about how shifts in the demography across globe are giving a prominent advantage to India. "With a robust economy and young consumer base, the primary source of competitive advantage to India is its largest and youngest workforce. Knowledge of English language and communication abilities are other factors that make India the hot spot for global human resources requirements", stressed Mr. Zaidi.

Ms. Mona Dutta, Director, People Strategy, Sapient India Pvt. Ltd., spoke about how IT is driving HR functions. She shared how her organisation is using social network sites like LinkedIn and Twitter to assist in HR function. Mr. Shyam Malhotra, Executive Director, Cyber Media, spoke how technology has brought in a paradigm shift in managing human resource.

Mr. Rakesh Seth, VP HR, Fedderslloyd, Mr. Deepak Singh, Chief HR, ONGC Petro, and Mr. Vinay Padro, GM, HR, Radico Khaitan, deliberated on the new skill sets required of an HR manager today. Apart from having good communication and inter-personal skills, an HR manager needs to be good at finance and technology.

Panel discussion on dimensions & directions of HR saw Ms. Ritu Bajaj, DGM (HR), Samtel Group with other delegates talk about innovative practices in HR. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. A. K. Puri, Director General, Fortune Institute, stressed the importance of the outcomes of any initiative that HR takes and about the value of wider perspective on the role and efficacy of HR through input and feedback from other functions.

Prof. Parul Singh, Faculty Coordinator said that Karmic 2009 - The HR Seminar witnessed comprehensive discussion on the aspects of the HR vertical and the pivotal role it is required to play in the emergence of high performance organisations.

Karmic 2009 - The HR Seminar is an annual event emphasizing the instrumental role of the Human Resource function in harnessing the people resources of an organization, to meet the business imperatives of companies operating in different sectors of the economy.
