IIM Ranchi Academic Session to Start from June / July

The union cabinet has approved the setting up of seven new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) that will get operational in two phases. In the first phase four IIMs are to be set up in Trichy, Ranchi, Raipur and Rohtak. Classes will start from 2010-11 academic year.

Under the mentorship of IIM, Kolkata the academic session for the first batch of Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi will start in June/July this year with a low fees structure. Two year post graduate programme will cost as low as Rs 6 lakh. While IIM Ahemdabad, charges Rs 12.5 lakh for the same course. Mr. R. C. Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited is now the chairperson of IIM Ranchi.

Mr. Bhargava said IIM, Ranchi, would admit 60 students to begin with. The advertisement for admission would be given by the month-end and those who score 95 per cent or above in the 2009 CAT would be eligible for the admission. Administrative Training Institute (ATI) hostels would be used by the students temporarily. He also revealed that institute would be roping in banks to provide educational loans to prospective students of IIM, Ranchi, like at other IIMs. Institute will follow the Centre's reservation policy, he added.

A permanent campus is set to come up at Nagri, around 20 km from Ranchi. The government has alloted 220 acres to the institute.
