    Student Life @ NITIE, Mumbai

    - by S. V. Girish *

From the moment I decided to do an MBA, people around me have been generous in giving a picture of the inevitable toil and sleepless nights. And as all wanna-bes would respond, I shrugged off their advices with confident portrayals of what I am cut out
to be. Now, I am a month old and here is a sneak-peak into my world!

The first thing you hear about NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering) is that, it is a different Mumbai inside the campus. The most beautiful campus, I have ever come across, it is a hill resort out here. Even though I had been to the campus during GD/PI session, I had limited myself to the hostel and academic building. After all, I would be spending my next two years here. And the D-Day arrived on the 18th June 2008. After allotment of rooms and completion of admission process, we were NITIEANS finally, and just as were breathing a sigh of relief, our seniors decided to "educate" us on the life and activities at NITIE.

The next four days taught us one valuable thing - sleep is a luxury product in B-school. For a fresher like me, who had taken laziness to new heights during his final year (I joined MBA right after completing my B.Tech.), this was a different world. Activities stretched till 2:00 - 3:00 in the morning and started again the next morning by 7:00!

And this is how we discovered our campus, as a part of our early morning schedule. Surrounded by lakes, flowered with greenery everywhere, it was love-at-first-sight for all of us. The campus is all uphill from the entrance and, in fact, has three layers of roads; the hostel and academic buildings being connected through the famous 94 steps.

The Professors have various ways of keeping you on your toes. While some expects you to prepare for the topic before coming to class, few others prefer the dreaded surprise quizzes. Either way, there is no respite! Now through the inspirational welcome address by our Director to cultural nights and committee interviews, there is a sense of regularity settling into my life. One of them is that the room is a place only to do your morning chores and sleep. For the past one week, I have not gotten to the room before midnight and it is just the beginning...

    Concluded.
