27 Board Toppers Join BITS Pilani

27 Board toppers from different states of the country have joined BITS Pilani campuses this year. Out of these, 25 joined the Pilani campus, and one each joined the Goa and Hyderabad campuses. These bright students include toppers from various Boards of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir,
Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh states. This was announced by Prof L. K. Maheshwari, Vice Chancellor of the University. He was speaking on the occasion of an orientation function for the news students at Pilani.

The Vice Chancellor said that every year, the university offers direct admission to all Board toppers of the country and these students have performed extremely well all these years. Except for direct admission to Board toppers, all admissions to the Institute are based on merit which is evaluated through the online entrance test, BITSAT.

Over 1,23,800 candidates applied for total 2000 seats this year in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses of the Institute put together. This year, 92,543 candidates actually wrote the test as against 83,930 during last year which is about 12% increase. Besides, minimum 80% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is the prerequisite for admission.

Calling for high standards of honesty and ethics amongst the students, the Vice Chancellor administered the Pledge for Ethics to the new students.
