Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow has set up a centre for leadership and human values to promote leadership in the country. To recognize and honor leaders and young leaders who have exhibited exceptional leadership through pursuit of excellence, IIML instituted “National Leadership Awards” in association with JK Organization in 2004.

The Laxmipat Singhania – IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards comprising a trophy and a citation are given to an outstanding leader and young leader in Business, Science & Technology, and Community Services & Social Upliftment.

The Laxmipat Singhania – IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards for 2008 were presented to Sh. Anand G. Mahindra, Vice Chairman & MD, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., for Business, Sh. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation, for Science & Technology and Padmashree Dr. Tulasi Munda, Secretary, Advisi Vikas Samiti, Serenda, Barbil, Dist. Keonjar, Orissa for Community Service & Social Upliftment by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Sh. Hamid Ansari at New Delhi.

The young leader awards were presented to Sh. Gautam Thapar, Chairman & CEO, Avantha Group, New Delhi for Business, Dr. B. K. Das, Scientist, DRDO, Chanidpur, Orissa for Science & technology & Sh. Ravi Rebbapragada, Founder, Samata Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh for Community Service & Social Upliftment.

"The policy framework should work closely with businesses and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive growth and upliftment of the marginalized population" said Sh. Hamid Ansari, Hon'ble Vice President of India. He also emphasized on the trinity of growth : Business, Science and Technology, Community Service and Upliftment.

The Leader Award honors iconic personalities who have achieved global recognition through excellence and transformational energy over a long period. The young leader award acclaims the achievements recognized in their field and presages the potential for a broader canvas in the coming years.

An eminent jury comprising of eminent personalities like Sh. K. C. Pant, Former Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Sh. K. Kasturirangan, Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Sh. S. S. Kohli, Chairman and MD, India Infrastructure Fin. Co. Ltd., Ms. Shobhana Bhartia, Chairperson and Managing Director, Hindustan Times, Sh. Arun Bharat Ram, CMD, SRF Ltd., Sh. H. K. Dua, Editor in Chief, The Tribune Trust, Sh. Hari Shankar Singhania, President, JK Organization, Dr. Jamshed J Irani, Chairman Board of Governors, IIM Lucknow & Director, Tata Sons Limited, Dr. Devi Singh, Director, IIML, and Sh. R. P. In the last 4 years, personalities who truly embodied the spirit of infinite excellence of human endeavor in every in every sense of the word, like Sh. Ratan N. Tata, Dr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Sh. Kumarmangalam Birla, Sh. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Prof. C. N. R. Rao, Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Smt. Illa Bhatt, Smt. Aruna Dalmia, Dr. Anil Kakodar, Sh. Rajender Singh and Dr. S. S. Badrinath were awarded in the Leaders category, and Shri Kishor Biyani, Smt. Mallika Srinivasan, Sh. R. Subramanian, Sh. Shirish B.
