Principal Adviser to the Director General of UNIDO Visits LIBA, Chennai

Previous

He quoted how unemployed engineers and MBA's in Nigeria, with the support of Microsoft, got together to revamp old PC's and sell them. Their idea got them and many others employment. Countries need to retain the talented by providing adequate incentives for them to stay on and contribute to the growth of the country.

The second solution he suggested was developing alternate energy sources which would reduce dependency on oil as well as generate employment. Currently, renewable energy provides employment to 2.5 mn people although it contributes only upto 2.5% of energy used. However, renewable energy will proliferate only if oil prices are at a high.

The third solution he put forth was creating and tapping the full potential of domestic demand to ensure a fundamentally strong domestic economy. He also put forth other solutions like speeding up public spending and mobilising domestic resources.

Mr. Vinanchiarachi enthralled his audience by interspersing his informative session with titbits about humorous incidents from his student days and work life that had a meaningful lesson enveloped in them. He also endeavoured to inspire students of LIBA by narrating his story of how he worked arduously to become the person he is today.

"The major take-away from the session for me were the personal anecdotes that the speaker shared with us," says Sruthi S. Thomas, Industry Interface Co-ordinator at LIBA. "Mr. Jebamalai's humble beginnings from a small village in Tamil Nadu and his stellar rise to the top as the Principal Adviser to UNIDO's Director General is truly a remarkable accomplishment in itself."

The "Beyond Management" Cell of LIBA, which is responsible for organizing Guest Lectures every week, was indeed proud to host yet another event, to a fully packed house on a Sunday morning. The economic insights gained from the representative of a top World body on the global crisis and accompanying recovery models, will surely add to LIBA's goal of continuous and experiential learning.

Concluded.
