NITIE Mumbai Organizes Workshop for HIV Inflicted Kids under the "Project Muskaan"

Man's limitations make him stretch beyond his comfort zone in search of answers, an oft dreaded shortcoming is his mortality which pushes him towards search of eternity. At Muskaan, we are no different where we search for an Everlasting Joy.

Muskaan, conceptualized by a bunch of B-School Students (NITIE, TISS, IIT) who firmly believe that there many minds and souls which need tending. They believe that their skills and network can be put to a better use in developing sustainable solutions for Underprivileged Individuals and Grass Root Level NGOs. Further, they believe that an incredible dream of everlasting joy is much more worthwhile than any other materialistic pursuit.

The Sunday of 17th May would have been usual affair with friends and family but for the short visit at a small time NGO in Asangaon. Muktajeevan is the world for some 60 odd HIV afflicted children where they are nurtured physically, intellectually and emotionally by loving Sisters. The Muskaan team had planned the visit for hands on experience with the Children to understand the gravity of challenge which lies ahead off them. To stir the Creative Cells of the kids, various competitions were held for different age group - Coloring contest, Vase Decoration, Sand Painting and an Innovative game of Decorate your balloon. The scorching sun lost its heat in front of the exuberance of the kids and the rainbow paled in front of their creations. Almost for an hour they toyed with colors, sand, glitter, balloon to come out with most adorable results.

Sadly, the potential of each child is limited by the resources which can be expended for them. The team came back with mixed feeling - Joy of meeting the warmest of all kids along with Sorrow after facing the grim realities of the life. We at Muskaan want to empower all such NGOs and underprivileged Individuals to break free from dependency of Donation, to give them the pride of Earning their living and charting their own future.

In order to include people from all walks of life in this cause we have developed TEND Model where contribution can come in form of Time, Expertise, Network and Donation. So it's not only about Money, Honey! We believe that a loving hug, a chat with an aged, a smile of encouragement, a workshop for teaching a skill, career counseling sessions and word of mouth are the stepping stones for a long lasting change. In order to take it further, our volunteers will be the Face of many unseen NGOs by presenting project Proposals to various CSR cells and Individual Donor, ensure a transparency and timely feedback from beneficiary, platform for showcasing products from NGO and mentoring individuals and NGOs for attaining financial stability. The focus areas will be HIV Afflicted Children, Orphans and Aged, Slum Dwellers and Employment. The essential aim will be achievement of Sustainability through TENDing Contributors using Education and Skill development as tools. We believe by joining hands we can live our Vision of 5 Million Lasting Smiles.
