Amity Management Program Gets A Boot From AICTE

Delhi, September 19, 2005
(CoolAvenues News Wire)

In a rare display of some teeth, AICTE today withdrew approval for conduct of PGDM (full time & part time) courses at Amity Business School, Noida, from the academic year 2005-06 on account of serious deficiencies and violation of norms and standards.

Further, it was decided by the council to transfer and distribute the students already admitted in the Amity Business School among other approved institutions in the nearby locality. As per AICTE, Amity was running large number of course at the same premises without the approval of AICTE.

Moreover, as per AICTE, Amity has violated building laws and also lacks requisite built-up area as per AICTE norms. It was also found that the admission process followed by the Institute was not transparent and the school has been involved in commercialization of education by charging exorbitant fee from students.

This move by AICTE is going to shackle the business gurus of management education where more than 1000 MBA institutes have mushroomed in last few years across the country in order to tap the ever-growing craze for MBA degree. One self-styled pony-tailed management guru, (self-proclaimed economist as well) has opened up seven campus across the country where he teaches students to dare to think beyond IIMs and fill the coffers.

So far management education is considered to be in the middle of regulation and privatization where some institutes go for AICTE recognition while a lot other tout some foreign collaboration and ignore AICTE completely. Now in view of sudden discovery by AICTE of its teeth, it is to be seen whether AICTE will be able to put rein on these foreign collaborated money-fleecing machines or not.

Concluded.
