Global Leadership Program Jointly Organized by SCOPE & IMI, India

New Delhi, September 26, 2005: International Management Institute (IMI) and Standing Conference of Public Enterprise (SCOPE) are jointly conducting a programme on "Global Leadership" intended for Indian Pubic Sector’s top management facing competitive pressures following liberalization.

Inaugurating the program, Mr. Sathark Behuria, Chairman IOC and Chairman SCOPE, said, "The need to create a global mindset among public sector managers as liberalization means that the traditional boundaries between the global market and the domestic market are thinning." The program started from 19th September 2005 and will continue till 16th October 2005.

The participants of the three-week program will spend one-week in a formal classroom at IMI, Delhi followed by a five-day capsule at the ESC-EAP at Paris. The participants will also visit institutions such The European Commission in Brussels, The World Trade Organisation, and the International Labour Organisation in Geneva. They are also scheduled to interact with the South Commission, the WIPO and the UNCTAD in addition to the local Chambers of Commerce at several locations.

"Participants need to be united in sharing positions of leadership facing challenging political and economic environments, and a desire to promote equitable and sustainable change in their organisations," added Professor Ajit Prasad, Professor of Strategic Management and the Programme Director, IMI.

During the program, the participants will focus on the four tenets of successful leadership, consider new ways to strengthen the opportunities provided by the open markets, to manage the challenges of globalisation, gain experience in assessing the risks and tensions inherent in transitions to market economies and how the trauma of transition can be eased, sharpen problem solving, analytic and strategic action skills and share experiences with their counterparts in other organisations.

Public sector participants are expected to return to their organisations with enhanced understanding of the tasks of leadership in promoting reform, greater knowledge of changes taking place internationally. Public Sector participants from ONGC, PWC, NTPC, NHPC, KRL and UGCR come from a broad range of leadership positions.
