Guruvandana 2005 at Welingkar Institute of Management Welingkar Institute of Management held 'Guruvandana', its annual felicitation of project guides and mentors, on October 7. Under the initiative of Director, Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, this unique event is organized every year, as the institute understands the true essence and the responsibility of a guide, and the importance of mentoring for shaping the students' present and future. This event also gives an opportunity for industry delegates, students and faculty, professionals to network and share knowledge and experiences. 12 external mentors and 53 guides from various companies, like Colgate-Palmolive, Walt Disney, Tata Consultancy Service, IDBI, KPMG, Johnson & Johnson, Reserve Bank of India, Goodlass Nerolac Paints, Nicholas Piramal, Morgan Stanley, graced the event with their presence. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a speech by Dr. Uday Salunkhe, who shared his vision for the institute and spoke on the new initiatives at Welingkar, followed by a talk by Prof. Sahuraja, the Chief Mentor, who spoke on 'Mentoring' at Welingkar - a yet another landmark where internal faculty and external professionals from the corporate world mentor the second year students for career planning and personal grooming. The event went ahead with individual felicitation of all guides and mentors. This event is unique to Welingkar and like many other initiatives; it is the first B-school to undertake such an activity. The guides appreciated the performance of the students and showed their willingness to come again. On the occasion, one of the industry professional Mr. Conan D'Souza, Shoprite India Operations, said, "It is a very good concept, well-organized and conducted very professionally. I've never heard of any other B-school having this kind of an event." The function concluded after dinner with a campus tour arranged specially for all the delegates. Concluded.
