Managing the Business of Art
Sanjay Bhattacharyya - ‘Artist-in-Residence’ - at the ISB

Hyderabad, October 19, 2005: Sanjay Bhattacharyya, celebrated realist painter, is now at the Indian School of Business as the Artist-in-Residence. Sanjay Bhattacharyya is known for his human forms, the streets, old architectural compositions and landscapes of rural Bengal in oil and water colour.
During his stay here, Sanjay will interact with the students, faculty and the ISB community while working on his paintings.

Speaking about the programme, Ajit Rangnekar, Deputy Dean, ISB said, "We believe that learning should be a holistic experience. By sensitising students to the arts, we can develop their inherent creativity, the ability to deal with incomplete information and also hone their instincts and insight."

Participating in this programme, Sanjay Bhattacharyya said, "The Artist-in-Residence programme is an excellent platform to encourage interest in art seriously. I would like to see some new artists emerging from amongst the students here."

Excited with his interaction with the Artist-in-Residence, Kedar Gavane, student of the Class of 2006, said, "Managing a team is like working with different colours. Watching Sanjay work helped me to understand how to balance a team of different individuals and come up with a winning output."

Sanjay Bhattacharyya is the fourth artist to be at the ISB since the Artist-in-Residence programme was started three years ago. Renowned painters, Laxma Goud and Paresh Maity, and well-known sculptor, Karl Antao have participated in this programme in the past.

The Artist-in-Residence programme will be followed by the ‘Business & Arts - Creativity Beyond Thought Leadership’ programme. In keeping with the best practices followed by the top, global business schools, the ISB aims to provide students an exposure to the arts. The arts help students to enhance inter-personal communication skills, imagination, observation, analytical skill, and creativity, all characteristics of an astute business leader.
