Third Chennai Alumni Chapter Strategic Marketing Workshop Organized by IIM Calcutta

Corporate experience of 233 years shared by 9 people, initiating 22-25 year olds into the world of strategic marketing. This is what IIM Calcutta's Chennai Chapter Alumni Workshop was all about. Consumer insights, Marketing and Strategy Models, Innovation and Real-life examples ruled the two-day workshop.

Mr. Ashok Jayaram, Mr. R. D. Thulasiraj, Mr. Mohan Eddy, Mr. P. V. R. Murthy, Mr. K. R. Chandrasekaran, Mr. Ravi Santhanam, Mr. Deepak Pande, Mr. R. Ramaraj and Mr. K. Mali Mahalingam took time out of their busy schedules on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd October 2005, to help students of their alma mater, understand the finer nuances in each of their respective industries and sectors. Managed by Chennai Alumni Association along with Marketing Club IIM Calcutta under the guidance of Prof. Shekhar Chaudhary (Director, IIM Calcutta) and Prof. Sudas Roy, the workshop drew students out of their routine and challenged them to use their mental faculties to come up with innovative and practical solutions to real problems.

Three sessions covered three different sectors highlighting the trends and nuances particular to each sector: The Services Sector, The Retail Sector and The Telecom Sector. The presentations made by the students on the three cases were critically evaluated by the industry experts and appreciated by all. The freshness of thought provided by the young students along with the experience of alumni helped formulate strategies pertaining to these cases and problems.

The first two sessions were followed by informal discussions amongst students, faculty and alumni over dinner and cocktails. From placements to campus life to corporate life, everything and every word seemed to enrich the young students' outlook towards industry.

It was a memorable experience for both the alumni and the students. At the end of the workshop, the alumni were highly enthused and pleased with the quality of presentations and discussion that ensued and wanted to make this a regular feature on academic calendar of IIM Calcutta students. The students also cherished the interactions they had with the alumni and wanted more such workshops to be held.
