Saturday, November 26, 2005

The students of the Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) at NITIE, Mumbai are hosting a Workshop on the use of Operations Research for decision making on Saturday, November 26th, 2005.

For most of the problems or goals that can be identified in organizations like businesses, governments, non-profit organizations or NGOs, Operations Research can make decision making not just simple but also it strives to make the decision more effective.

Operations Research is the scientific way of getting to better decisions. The problem at hand is converted into a mathematical problem and solved. The solution will then be converted back to the real world equivalent parameters and decisions could be taken directly. Operations Research has evolved from World War II, and has been used by many companies to boost profits.

NITIE intends to make the session as an eye-opener of what all kinds of problems can be solved using Operations Research. It intend to expose you to optimization possible by mathematics after which you can go back and identify specific areas where improvements are possible.
